Slugs play an important role in our ecosystem: recycling nutrients and breaking down organic matter, but they are often overlooked and under-recorded. Reporting the slugs you see can contribute to our understanding of them and their rapidly-changing distributions in the face of climate change.
Join slug expert (limacologist) Chris du Feu to learn more about the secret lives of slugs. Chris has featured on Springwatch and delivers Field Studies Council courses in the UK.
This workshop will include:
- An Introduction to Slugs
- Identifying the four major groups
- Specimen identification session
This workshop is free and open to all; no experience or prior knowledge is required.
Participants will be expected to collect their own slug specimens prior to the workshop (preferably from gardens, allotments etc.) and bring them along. Guidelines on collection and keeping will be provided before the event. These specimens will not only provide material for identification but also serve as valuable species records that can be submitted to the Jersey Biodiversity Centre database and the national recording scheme.
