About this Event

This training is for educators in Primary schools, activity clubs, or in other areas of education.

On this course we will cover different pond habitats and the animals that use them, focusing on how you can link using the pond to the Jersey curriculum. We will practice safe pond dipping techniques that are suitable for use with large school groups and how to communicate these practices to your class.

On this course you will:

  • Identify 5 pond habitats and the characteristics.
  • Identify 10 common pond animals
  • Practice safe pond dipping techniques.
  • Learn about pond management.
  • Get ideas of how to apply elements of the life science curriculum to create meaningful cross-curricular activities for students of varying abilities.

Tutor: Sarah Maguire, Education and Outreach Officer. Sarah has been running pond dipping activities for 5 years with school groups in the UK as well as Jersey. She has a degree in Conservation and Wildlife Management and has teaching qualifications in Forest School level 3 Award and City & Guilds Award in Education and Training.

Covid-19 policy and procedure: This training will take place in person according to government guidelines. Each household will receive a set of equipment for the training. Hand sanitizer and wipes will be provided. We will keep your email and name for track and trace for 2 weeks post the course completion date, after that date those details will be deleted.
